Rebirthing Breathwork

What is Rebirthing Breathwork?

Rebirthing Breathwork is a gentle “conscious connected” breathing practice where inhales and exhales are merged without pauses. The relaxed, continuous rhythm can induce a safe and deep relaxation and puts us in a theta brain wave frequency. In an expanded state of awareness we can have access to our unconscious thoughts, fears blockages and traumas, allowing emotions and memories and to surface integrate and heal while feeling safe.

It invites us to take responsibility for what we have created in our lives and for who we pretend to be so that , little by little, we can find our way back to who we really are.

It is a Path of Consciousness that gently invites us to go though healing and liberations which will have repercussions in our daily lives. We must be prepared for accepting the healing changes that will present themselves.

The Rebirthing path is therefore a path of Awareness, Transformation, and Responsibility, which implies that we accept to question ourselves and move beyond victimisation to be in back in charge of our lives again.

Origins and founder:

Developed by Leonard D. Orr in the late 1960s–1970s. Early sessions were sometimes done in warm water to evoke a womb-like environment, later moving to land-based sessions as the method spread globally. Rebirthing developed within transpersonal and somatic traditions. It’s best framed as a complementary mind-body modality rather than a medical treatment.

Core principles:

Connected breathing supports relaxation, and relaxation supports safety.

In a safe state, unresolved material can surface and transform, and help us align with our true essence.

Breathing “moves energy,” helping shift sensations toward peace and clarity.

It is understood that 80% of our limiting beliefs are activated or reactivated around birth. The way we were born influences our personality, our relationships and the way we interpret reality.

After releasing the stuck energy we want to reconnect to a higher truth, we do this using affirmations and gratitude.

Who is this for:

those who want to do this, or who feel the call from within.

those are are willing to be active participants in their healing. Rebirthing sessions activates Karma, heals, transforms and therefore requires the active participation.

people on the spiritual path or who choose to face their wounds to grow and evolve.

What a session looks like:

We’ll do a check-in on your intentions, and review a rebirthing questionnaire which will help us identify the relevant limiting belief that is causing your present stress/situation. We will activate a higher truth and affirmations to support the release. I bring in the help of spirit guides and often use oracle cards which help deepen perspectives.

You lay down comfortably; as your facilitator, I guide a gentle, continuous nasal breath.

You may experience physical sensations or emotions as the “energy cycle” unfolds.

Session completes when a sense of calm, ease, bliss or “completion” is reached.

Integration and debrief.

Sessions need 1.5- 2hrs of time.

You want a minimum of 6 sessions to deep transformation as it’s often a process of peeling back layers. Its preferable to leave 3-4 weeks between sessions.

Reported benefits:

Deep relaxation and nervous-system settling

Greater clarity, emotional release, sense of connectedness and wellbeing

Liberating and enables people to gain a sense of their personal power. (Authentic self-empowerment)

Safety, risks, and contraindications:

Sessions are designed to be gentle and non-cathartic in intent, but strong feelings can arise.

It is not recommended if there is a history of trauma, panic, bipolar disorder, psychosis, seizure disorders, significant cardiovascular or respiratory conditions, or pregnancy.

Always disclose medical or psychological conditions to me in advance and we will always proceed with informed consent. If concerns are present, I’ll suggest you consult a healthcare professional first.

How it differs from other breathwork:

Rebirthing emphasises a soft, continuous, intuitive rhythm aimed at relaxation and completion of an “energy cycle,” rather than performance or heat-building goals found in techniques like Wim Hof or Breath of Fire.

Practicals for clients:

Preparation: Light meal, comfortable clothing, avoid intoxicants, set an intention.

During: Breathe gently without force; inform the facilitator of any discomfort.

Aftercare: Hydrate, rest if needed, journal reflections, and avoid rushing into demanding tasks to allow integration.
